Novacarhire is a car rental booking site based in County Kerry, Ireland. They have been in the business since 1997. Their most promoted marketing offer is cheap booking.

Like most other booking sites, Novacarhire compares different rental costs from different car rental companies and displays them for customers to choose from.

Novacarhire provides a quote of the total booking fee but only asks for a deposit to finalize the booking which is normally around 10% of the total cost. The rest of the car rental cost shall be paid for at the rental desk upon collection of the vehicle. Except for the Cancellation Amendment Protection (CAP), all the extras and add-ons (added insurance, extra driver, child seat, infant seat, etc) are added to the balance that needs to be paid for at the rental desk. However, customers need to book the items while making a booking at Novacarhire.

Because of the company’s affiliation with a variety of car rental companies, there is no shortage of car choices. Car choice ranges from minis to electric cars, to family vans all vary depending on the availability at the local car supplier.

The booking process is pretty standard – select dates, get car options, add in personal details, place add-on orders, and pay for the deposit. Payment is strictly via credit card. Novacarhire is rated average across many different car hire review platforms. Many customers have praised the ease of use of Novacarhire’s website and the overall ease of its booking process especially with regards to making payment. Users have also appreciated the low cost of booking with Novacarhire.

However, the company is not without its faults according to many unhappy customers. One of the most common complaints is on additional costs, insurance, and inconveniences due to miscommunication and last minute changes. A couple of customers have complained about having to get insurance twice – one from Novacarhire and the other from the local car supplier. These customers were distraught to find out that the pre-purchased coverage from Novacarhire’s insurance arm does not provide adequate coverage and they had to supplement it with local car hire insurance. Whether this is an inadequacy on the part of Novacarhire or just very creative sales pitching by the car supplier, we may never know.

Several customers have also shared their experiences of having their booking cancelled or unconfirmed at the last minute. As one customer had it, his booking from Novacarhire was canceled merely hours before pickup time. There were also accounts of people finding out at the rental desk that their Novacarhire booking had never taken place even when they had received confirmation from the booking agent.

Novacarhire might need some improvement on their booking confirmations but the rest of its service seems to be more satisfactory. As with any other booking site, Novacarhire customers need to remember that reading the small print is a necessary burden. It may take time, it may get confusing, and just ticking on the ‘Agree’ box may seem a whole lot more convenient than ploughing your way through pages of small print but it may just be the thing to save you from unnecessary costs and upsetting disputes.
